Based on the mystery novel by Lawrence Block, Matt Scudder is a former NYPD who now works as unofficial private investigator operating outside the eye of the law. Matt reluctantly agrees to help a heroin drug trafficker to search New York City to find his kidnapped wife. After finding out that the wife had been killed, Matt soon realizes the kidnappers have no intent to stop killing more people, so it's up to him to find the people who are responsible and bring them to justice before they kill again.
