20th Century Fox has unveiled the first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, a film adaptation based on the popular Japanese manga/anime series Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro.

The film follows Alita, a female cyborg who has lost all her memories but is repaired and brought back online by cybermedic expert Dr. Ido. After being rebuilt, she rediscovers one remnant of her past - the legendary cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which leads to her becoming a bounty hunter.

Produced by James Cameron (TitanicAvatar) and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Spy KidsSin City), Alita: Battle Angel stars up-and-coming actress Rosa Salazar as Alita and Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) as Dr. Ido. They are joined by Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) and Jennifer Connelly (Noah).

Alita: Battle Angel opens in cinemas on 19 July 2018.
