In 2016, Kazumi Takayama, a first-generation member of the popular idol unit Nogizaka 46, made her debut as a published novelist with Trapezium, a story serialised in the Da Vinci magazine. Drawing on her own life experiences as an idol in Japan`s entertainment industry, she wove a dramatic tale of a teen girl aiming to become an idol herself. This fresh, realistic take on the genre, given weight and authenticity by the author`s first-hand knowledge of the industry`s highlights and challenges, saw significant success and greenlit its animated film adaptation.
