Ocean’s 14 With Brad Pitt And George Clooney Could Be Directed By Edward Berger

If you've got any salt handy, it may be worth taking a pinch of it before plunging into this morsel of movie news with us, folks. According to Deadline, one last job for Danny Ocean and his motley crew of high-stake heisters may well be on the cards after all — and if stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt have their way, they've found a hell of a filmmaker to make the film happen. Per the trade's reporting, none other than BAFTA winning All Quiet On The Western Front director Edward Berger is being courted to helm Ocean's 14, which would be the fourth film in the mainline Ocean's franchise and the first made without Steven Soderbergh calling the shots.

Last Christmastime, during an interview with Uproxx to promote his sports drama The Boys In The Boat, Clooney revealed that a new Oceans movie has already been written. "We have a really good script for another Oceans now," the franchise lead said, "so we may end up doing another one." Continuing, he also referenced 2017 old-timer heist flick Going In Style as a point of comparison for what an Ocean's 14 could wind up looking like. Now, at this point, sources are telling Deadline that a formal offer isn't even on the table just yet for Berger to hop in Soderbergh's directorial hotseat. But with Berger's latest, Papal conspiracy thriller Conclave, lighting up the Venice Film Festival this past week and already generating serious awards season buzz, if Clooney and Pitt can convince the in-demand director to take on their long-awaited sequel, it'd be a hell of a coup.

Whilst nothing is set in stone just yet for Ocean's 14, no casting confirmations beyond Clooney and Pitt's expected returns, no release timeframe, and — perhaps most pertinently — no actual official confirmation of the movie's existence beyond Clooney's comments on the script, you know what they say about smoke and fire. And given the praise being lavished upon Clooney and Pitt right now for their chemistry and unwavering movie star charisma in Jon Watts' blackly comic crime caper Wolfs, there's clearly still a big appetite for more movies with two of Hollywood's elder statesmen front and centre. For now, all we can say for certain is that if a Berger Ocean's 14 does materialise, you'll have to orchestrate the mother of all heists to snag a ticket for that red carpet. It'll have more stars than the Arches Cluster!
