Synopsis

Mark Reeder, a musician from Manchester, England, was 22 when he left for West Berlin, fascinated by German electronic music. There, he took on different job roles – including a record label representative, a roadie, a bouncer, a sound engineer and an actor. Welcome to the music, art and chaos in the Wild West Berlin of the 1980s, as seen through Reeder’s front-row perspective. This documentary features mostly previously-unreleased film footages, including vintage performance clips by David Bowie, Joy Division and Nick Cave. The walled-in city became the creative melting pot of pop and sub cultures, attracting ingenious dilettantes and world-famous celebrities alike. Before the fall of the iron curtain, artists and communards, squatters and hedonists of all kinds would enjoy Berlin’s unconventional lifestyle, starting with punk and ending with the Love Parade. It was about living for the moment, in the here and now.
