Michael B. Jordan Set to Star & Direct Thomas Crown Affair Reboot

Michael B. Jordan has found his next directorial project following his debut film, Creed 3, in the form of Thomas Crown Affair. Jordan is one of the most acclaimed rising stars to emerge from the 2010s with films like ChronicleFruitvale StationJust Mercy, and Black Panther. Jordan's star-making role was as Adonis Creed in 2015's Creed, the spin-off continuation of the Rocky franchise. He reprised his role in Creed II, and then, for Creed III, stepped behind the camera as the film's director in his directorial debut. Creed III was a hit with critics and audiences, and since then, fans have been waiting to see what film Jordan would direct as his follow-up. According to Deadline, Michael B. Jordan will star and direct Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM. Jordan has built up a good working relationship with Amazon MGM, as they distributed Creed III , and his production company, Outlier Society, has a first-look deal with Amazon. MGM is setting the film up for a theatrical release. Drew Pearce (The Fall Guy) will pen the script for Thomas Crown Affair, and now production will look to find Jordan's co-star. The reboot of Thomas Crown Affair marks the third time this property has been brought to the big screen. The first was 1968's The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by Norman Jewison and starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. The second film version was 1999's The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by John McTerninan and starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Both versions of the story revolve around Thomas Crown, a billionaire who is also a thief. The first film centers on a jewel heist, while the second is about stealing rare paintings. In either case, The Thomas Crown Affair is a love story between Thomas Crown and a female agent assigned to investigate his crimes. They were hits, with the 1968 version being nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards for "The Windmills of Your Mind, while the 1999 version grossed $124 million worldwide against a $48 million budget. While not the 31-year gap between the 1968 version and the 1999 remake, this new Thomas Crown Affair adaptation was announced 25 years after the previous one, meaning there is a chance for the film to do something new and introduce this story to a new generation who might not be familiar with the story. Jordan has been trying to get Thomas Crown Affair off the ground since 2016, hot off the success of Creed. Now, following Creed III's showcasing his talents as a director, he can fully see the project through after all these years of trying to get it through development.
